What is the Cost of Filing Chapter 7 Bankruptcy?
July 4, 2012
General cost of filing may vary from state to state or city to city. On average I have seen fees charged from $1,000.00 to $2,500.00 for a simple chapter 7 case. More complex case can go a little higher. It just depends on the firm you hire. Make sure you ask the firm you hire if the fees include cost. Cost can include the
$306.00 court filing fee, credit reports, asset checks, tax transcripts, credit counseling and debtor education certificates and possible other miscellanies fees that may or may not be include in the fee quoted. My office tries to charge a flat fee for chapter 7 cases. We offer a free consultation that allows me to get an idea of what type of case each client has. At this consultation I quote a fee which includes all cost except the credit counseling and debtor education certificates. Cost of credit counseling is $30.00 and debtor education certificate is $11.00. Our fees are generally around $1,375.00 to $1,475.00 if the entire fee is paid prior to filing. If a client is in a rush to file and needs a payment plan, we will file the case for as little as $0.00 to $400.00 down and the balance of fees are paid over the next 5-6 months. The payment plan does cost a little more because of bank transaction fees and our time associated with payment plans. Call our office to set up a free in office or phone consultation to
get your fee quote.
